Day 8 - Arm in Arm
Song theme: ‘Love will see us through’
This song is based around the idea that ‘love will see us through’. The reassurance that when we’re facing a tough battle, we’ve got someone with us to help us get us to the other side…

“I feel safe, I feel whole
When I’m arm in arm with you”
This song is based around the idea that ‘love will see us through’. The reassurance that when we’re facing a tough battle, we’ve got someone with us to help us get us to the other side.
I got the inspiration for this at the start of January 2021. We’d just gone into another national lockdown and unlike the ones before, this one was in the depths of winter; no warm sunny days to spend outside. It was a dark time for most of us.
After the initial feeling of shock and uneasiness I was met with a realisation of how lucky I am to be surrounded by a loving wife, son and family. And to me, that is really all that matters. No money in the world, no place I could be, no one else, nothing could get me through better than who I was with right then.
If you’ve ever faced an uphill climb, if you’ve ever felt like the sands are shifting quickly under your feet, this one’s for you...
ARM IN ARM - LYRICS
V1
I’m clinging on, clinging on, clinging on hanging
I’m in pieces, lost again
How do I, how do I, how do I stay strong?
When I’ve lost heart to carry on
Pre
I’m shaken, I’m breaking
But I’m not giving up
Ch
‘Cause you’re my shelter, my armour
Hands to lift me taller
I feel safe, I feel whole
When I’m arm in arm with you
V2
You carry me, carry me, carry me along
You hold me up, you keep me strong
Everyday, everyday, everyday we grow
You’ve got my back, you let me know
Pre
When I’m shaken, breaking
You don’t give me up
Ch
You’re my shelter, my armour
Hands to lift me taller
When I’m stuck, when I’m lost
You’re the light to see me through
When I’m stumbling, stalling
You catch me when I’m falling
I feel safe, I feel whole
When I’m arm in arm with you
Br
I can’t stand alone
Do you realise, I’d be nothing
And I don’t have enough
On my own
Ch
You’re my shelter, my armour
Hands to lift me taller
When I’m stuck, when I’m lost
You’re the light to see me through
When I’m stumbling, stalling
You catch me when I’m falling
I feel safe, I feel whole
When I’m arm in arm with you
I feel safe, I feel whole
When I’m arm in arm with you
ARM IN ARM - LIVE PERFORMANCE VIDEO
Here is where I dive a little deeper into the songs on the album and give my breakdown of the meaning and reason for writing it…
One of the most exciting parts of creating this album for me was having other play on my songs. I’m really proud of my songs in their pure-strapped back form and I always make sure that they ‘work’ well like that first, but to hear them embellished by some incredibly talented musicians was a real, real joy. Without that, it just wouldn’t feel like a record.
