Day 5 - Walk Into Silence

Song theme: ‘Dealing with loss / separation’

Sometimes when writing a song you come across a phrase that you think will make a great title that just compels you, draws you in.

You have to start digging and exploring what it could mean and how it can be developed into a song.

You’re the one who said you’d be there but the chill in my bones says you won’t
I don’t want to walk into silence, I don’t want to go on alone

Walk into Silence

Sometimes when writing a song you come across a phrase that you think will make a great title that just compels you, draws you in. You have to start digging and exploring what it could mean and how it can be developed into a song. ‘Walk Into Silence’ is definitely one of those.

The core idea of the song is based around the fear of loss or separation. The realisation of having to move forward in life without that someone you loved. It’s about the emotions you feel in that moment; the desperation, the helplessness and the pain.

It could relate to separation in terms of death, losing someone or maybe just the end of a relationship - it’s a universal subject and I hope this song can bring some comfort and reassurance to those who have had to deal with it.

WALK INTO SILENCE - LYRICS

V1
We used to feel so alive
Our hearts would sing, we’d burn so bright
But something’s lost, something’s gone
I’m calling out, to make it up
But all my hopes just gather dust
Tongue-tied, you’re staying shut

Pre
Well look at me now I’m at the edge
Look at me hanging by a thread
I keep reaching out but you just fall away

Ch
I don’t want to walk into silence, I don’t want to run on my own
I can’t bear to fall into nothing, I can’t bear a life with you gone
You’re the one who said you’d be there but the chill in my bones says you won’t
I don’t want to walk into silence, I don’t want to go on alone

V2
I’m waking up, coming round
I shout your name I’m crying out
My beating heart is playing loud
I’ve laid it it all on the line
I’m clinging on to hope tonight
Don’t lock me out, don’t draw the line

Pre
Well look at me now I’m at the edge
Look at me hanging by a thread
I’m just cut adrift in empty open space

Ch
I don’t want to walk into silence, I don’t want to run on my own
I can’t bear to fall into nothing, I can’t bear a life with you gone
You’re the one who said you’d be there but the chill in my bones say you won’t
I don’t want to walk into silence, I don’t want to go on alone

Br
I’ve been putting all my heart, all my hopes
Into this life together
I’ve given every single that I got
But it’s not enough, not enough
Not enough

Ch
I don’t want to walk into silence, I don’t want to run on my own
I can’t bear to fall into nothing, I can’t bear a life with you gone
You’re the one who said you’d be there but the chill in my bones say you won’t
I don’t want to walk into silence, I don’t want to go on alone
I don’t want to walk into silence, I don’t want to go on alone
